Story: Concerned that Amy's time-travelling experiences might tear apart her relationship with Rory, the Doctor hatches a plan to take them both somewhere exotic as a wedding present, and give them an opportunity to re-bond. The place: Venice, Italy, in 1580, when the city is sealed up as protection against the plague... even though the outbreak ended decades ago. Sensing something amiss, the Doctor learns that the quarantine has been recommended by one Signora Rosanna Calvierri, who claims to have witnessed the plague burning through Europe firsthand. The Doctor, naturally, resolves to meet her as soon as possible.

The signora in question is the popular local headmistress of a prestigious boarding school, into which girls for miles around hope to be admitted, as a quality education promises to relieve their burden of poverty. But once admitted, the girls undergo a startling change. Their skin becomes pale, they develop an aversion to sunlight, and sometimes, when threatened, their mouths reveal sharp fangs...
