Story: The TARDIS arrives in what appears to be a 1980s hotel, down to the garish carpet, faded wallpaper, and the tinny muzak being broadcast over the loudspeakers. But the Doctor swiftly deduces that the hotel is merely an alien reproduction, presumably designed to appeal to nostalgic Earth-culture tourists. Besides, there are some things about the hotel that just don't add up. The walls are decorated with photographs bearing mysterious plaques, possibly awards but somehow more sinister. The hotel barely seems to have any customers at all, bar a small group of frantic and terrified stragglers roaming the corridors with hand-fashioned weapons. And the front doors have been bricked over, so there's no escape, particularly once the TARDIS goes missing.

As the TARDIS crew ally themselves with the current residents to explore the hotel together, they learn that behind some of the doors lie terrifying secrets: deep, dark fears made flesh. Some of those rooms are harmless, containing the embodiments of other people's nightmares... but for each visitor to the hotel, one of the rooms contains their very own worst fear. Upon witnessing it, the hapless individual begins to reflexively worship a mysterious beast that lives in the bowels of the hotel... a creature which, when summoned, swiftly tracks down the possessed penitent to drain them of the life that they willingly offer. As their numbers dwindle, the Doctor must figure out the hotel's secrets before everyone in their group eagerly sacrifices their lives to the beast.
