Story: For her first trip in the TARDIS, Bill is curious to find out whether the future turns out to be a happy one. So the Doctor brings her to one of Earth's first colonies: Gliese 581 D, an idyllic and sun-drenched planet where the futuristic city is surrounded by newly-planted fields of wheat, and the humans' every need is attended to by tiny robotic Vardy and their interface emojibots, which gather feedback from the colonists' moods.

Except that the city is desolate, buildings and streets completely empty, without a colonist anywhere in sight. The Doctor theorizes that the robots formed the advance crew, readying the planet in preparation for the arrival of the colony ship, but he can't shake the feeling that something horrifying might have happened to the city's residents...
