Story: At her grandmother's birthday celebration, Yaz is gifted a broken antique wristwatch which she assumes belonged to her grandfather; but her nani Umbreen refuses to discuss its history. Consumed with curiosity, Yaz pleads with the Doctor for a trip back to Lahore in the 1950s, so that she can at least glimpse her grandmother from a distance when she was young.
Reluctantly, the Doctor agrees, and links the watch to the TARDIS' telepathic circuits... however, they materialize not in Lahore, but in a remote part of the northern Punjab mountains. A passing man offers them a lift on his cart, and takes them directly to Umbreen's farmhouse, where Yaz realizes that Umbreen is a bride-to-be, and her groom, the Hindu man, Prem, driving the cart. Yaz is thrown for a loop — Prem is not her grandfather, and Umbreen was supposed to have married a Muslim man — but the Doctor is soon thrown for one greater, when she learns that they have arrived in the Punjab the very day before the Partition of India, which sparked religious hate crimes in which thousands of people were massacred...
