Story: Galvanized to discover the identity of a middle-aged woman who appears to keep recurring throughout time and space, the Doctor beelines back to UNIT HQ, where the entire staff immediately recognize his mystery woman as Susan Triad: philanthropist, entrepreneur, and IT genius. Her name has already put UNIT on high alert — S TRIAD is an obvious anagram of TARDIS, and as Ruby points out, Susan shares a name with the Doctor's long-unseen granddaughter — so all eyes at UNIT are on the open-source software that Triad is preparing to launch worldwide, expecting it to be a trap or the trigger for an alien invasion. Mel, though, has long since infiltrated Triad's organization, and reports back that Susan is... actually quite nice?

With Mel actively investigating Triad, the Doctor seizes the opportunity to co-opt UNIT's resources to dig into another mystery: the peculiar circumstances surrounding Ruby's abandonment as a baby, and the identity of her mother. Feeding one of Ruby's heirlooms — a VHS tape containing the CCTV footage of the church where Ruby was left — into UNIT's time window technology, Ruby and the Doctor find themselves immersed in a 360-degree recreation of the night in question. But in the dark shadows of the crackling, grainy footage, something malevolent is stirring...
