Story: For Mickey's first trip through space and time, the TARDIS brings its crew to a spaceship in the 51st century. The ship's crew seems to have deserted it, but the Doctor does find an eighteenth-century French fireplace on board. This mysterious anachronism alone is intriguing, but even stranger is the fact that although the fireplace is against the ship's hull, the TARDIS crew can see through it... and into a little girl's bedroom in 1727 Paris, home to six-year-old Reinette.
Discovering that the fireplace is a sort of time portal, the Doctor finds a way through it into Reinette's bedroom, only to learn that from her perspective, several weeks have passed since their first meeting. Of more concern to the Doctor is the menacing clockwork figure hiding under her bed, which claims to need Reinette - but she is incomplete. Years later, Reinette has matured into Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, aka the future Madame de Pompadour, mistress to Louis XV and one of the most accomplished women in the world - yet the clockwork figures still stalk her. What can androids from the 51st century want with a woman from the 18th? In uncovering this secret, the Doctor will find himself more vulnerable than ever before...
